Parade Route
Parade History

MayDay Parade proceeds in two sections: the storytelling part created by HOBT and hundreds of participants, and the Join-In section.

This section is open to any group or organization that wants to march in the parade. Floats and/or masks for the Join-In section must be built outside of HOBT workshops. Groups who wish to participate in this section of the parade don't need to sign up ahead of time. Simply come to the parade line-up by noon on Sunday, May 1st, and check in with the Join-In Section coordinator. The Join-In Section lines up basically in the order in which group arrive; however, some re-arranging may occur for musical or safety reasons.

HOBT is responsible for organizing this event. To ensure the safety of everyone involved, we ask that all groups in the Join-In Section follow the rules listed below:

  • You must have a sign or banner identifying your organization
  • No motorized floats or vehicles are allowed
  • No mega-phones or amplification
  • Your message must be peaceful
  • No one in your group can do anything illegal
  • Your group must be respectful to other parade sections, audience members, parade officials, and the police
  • Parade order in the Join-In section is basically first-come, first-served. However, some rearranging may occur for music or safety reasons

Line-up: Noon, Sunday, May 1, 2005 at Cedar Field (18th and 25th St.). Please do not enter the parade once it is going down Bloomington Ave. Groups that do not enter along Bloomington will be asked to wait until the entire parade has passed before joining in.
